Game Development Certificate

Intended for anyone who is interested in working in the games development industry, our Game Development Certificate provides you with the technical skills you need to create and optimize games. By taking a hands-on, practical approach to learning, these courses provide you with the skills you need to use Unity software to develop three-dimensional (3D) games. Exercises are designed for all levels of experience, from those with game ideas and no experience to those who have programming skills and some exposure to game development using HTML and Flash.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT(S)

You will be required to provide your own Unity software (version 4), which can be downloaded free from the Internet.

Courses

Intended for anyone interested in working in the game development industry, our Game Development I course explores the art of game development, game production and Unity software. Study the processes involved in creating games and game assets, and consider Unity GUI and GameObjects. Learn how to use basic scripting in the creation of game scenes and levels and how to include basic collisions and triggers.

NOTE(S)

This is an online course, and registration is offered through continuous intake (meaning registration is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year). Register in the section (CRN) with the Date(s) range that includes the date on which you plan to start the course (keeping in mind that you will receive your course details approximately a week after you register). You have 120 calendar days from the day you receive the course details to complete the course. Please ensure you are familiar with the basic technology requirements for online courses. You will also be required to provide your own Unity / Visual Studio software (which can be downloaded free from the Internet).

You must have basic computer skills.

Through our Game Development II course, build on the concepts learned in our COMP 9645 (Game Development I) course by studying such advanced topics as networking, scripting using C#, materials, effects, advanced collisions and triggers. Learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and how to incorporate it into games.

Our advanced Game Development III course aims to further enhance your knowledge of Unity 4 game development. Learn about how to target mobile platforms (including iOS and Android devices), create two-dimensional (2D) games and integrate with Game Center and social networks (Facebook, Twitter). Explore monetizing games with in-app purchases, publishing games in the Apple AppStore and Google Play and applying basic game marketing techniques.
